A good workout

357 words; about a 2 minute read

I had some off duty time, so I decided to head to the gym to get some exercise time in. I wanted to do this on a daily basis, but it's been hectic, so I grabbed the time when I could. It's been a while since I had the time off to exercise. When I got to the gym, I found it empty. All the better.

If I was needed for an emergency, the computer knew where to find me.

To start, I sat on the floor and started mediating. "Computer. Start a silent counter for 10 minutes." "Acknowledged." came the reply.

I sat on the floor and crossed my legs. I started with deep breaths in, and hold, then let it out slowly. I could feel the tension in my body leaving.

I must have lost the time, for suddenly the computer told me my time was up. I heard that it's a good mediation if you lose track of time.

I stood up, slowly, and my legs started to cramp, in both the thighs and the calves. I started stretching, and soon the pain stopped. I picked up my water bottle and took a big sip.

After a short break, I started another round of stretching, the arms, the back, the legs. No pain this time.

Next, I did some slow-motion drills. I imagined that I was attacked. I slowly imagined that I grabbed the attacker and threw him aside. Next, I grabbed an attacker from behind, and put my arms around his throat from behind, within seconds, due to a temporary lack of oxygen, he fell unconscious. I did this for 10 minutes.

Finally, I did 25 sit-ups, then 50 push-ups, then 50 chin-ups.

I sweat through my work-out shirt, but since I was alone, I pulled the shirt off and did the rest of my exercises alone.

20 minutes later, I was finished. I drank 2 bottles of water to rehydrate, put on an extra t-shirt, and headed back towards the doors. As I approached, the doors opened and 3 female crewmen entered. They gave me a look, a smile, and one actually gave me a wink.
