Mission: The New Collective
Location: USS Merlin - Deck 2 - Tillatix Quarters
Timeline: Next Mission - Borg Attack Nigh
2036 words - 4.1 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

The ship had finished meeting up with another starship for supplies and some new crew. Merlin was the main ship to get to the next area where this New Style Borg were attacking. As the ship was now back operational, the crew were able to take a much needed break before the soon next engagement.

Thus, the CFCO was able to get back to sorting her own personal life out now that her services were no longer required at this time.

The time was 1730 hours. Sav sat at her communication desk and looked over the wording of her two missives she was going to send.

Hey Cara,

In rummaging around in my closet, I rediscovered my duffel bag with presents from my college and Academy Graduations. Now that I am getting back my life, I feel it is appropriate to open them, but it is never fun by yourself. Would you want to swing by for an hour or so for some companionship and to help open my presents?

I am inviting Kachiko as well... it's always more fun with a couple of girls than just one.

I look forward to hearing back from you, whatever your answer.

Thanks,

Sav

P.S. Not Reiko at this time... the gifts might include adult novelty items... sooo...

Sav hit send for the missives to go out. Now it was up to them to respond or swing by. She proceeded to haul her L'Tandrey duffel bag out of the closet. She brought the bag out to the living room space of her quarters. She had these quarters since first transfer from deck 9 CAG quarters to Senior Officer Quarters. They were rather 'extravagant', well, to her, but disbursing said it was all up and up.

The entrance doors to her quarters opened upon a 'living room' type space, bar to the side, workdesk, and 'coffee' tale style meeting table with a couch, easy chair, and loveseat. Right near the door was a coat closet. Just past this area was a kitchenette with a secure comm panel. The doors at the back opened to a bedroom with a queen sized bed, and a fresher to the side of that with a full bath besides shower and sonics.

She set the bag next to the coffee table and patted her special 'easy chair-recliner'. It had been brought aboard after her surgeries to give her body an easy recline for recovery. It had a place for her tail to insert itself and be between a padded rest for it and the padded rest for her back. She would have loved to also have Brenda, Wynn, and Melody there also, but all three were missing from the ship disappearing. She was just glad to have Kachiko and Cara to come, or so she hoped both would. And, well, if neither showed, well, back into the closet with the bags. After all, it had been six years for the College gifts, and two years for the Academy gifts. More time wouldn't matter.

Her workdesk in the alcove by the living room chimed. She went over, sat down, and turned on the screen. It was a return missive from Cara.

===========

Cara had just woke up and was sipping at her first cup if coffee as she checked her messages...part of her "waking ritual" before taking her shower and getting ready to go on duty. She read the invite and said, "computer...record reply. Save'ena...I go on duty at 1900. I will try and stop by on my way but only for a few minutes. Cara. End recording and send." She got up and, carrying her coffee with her she headed for the shower.

===========

Sav read the reply, scrunched up her muzzle and said under her breath, "Crap, I screwed up again." She touched the panel and a reply was nearly instantly entered and sent.

===========

Yeouch Cara, I'm so sorry for interrupting your morning. I didn't realize you were on a weird hybrid beta-gamma duty shift. That is totally my bad. Don't fret any for stopping by, your duty shift is definitely more important than opening old crap from ages ago. I'll request a future date that fits into your schedule for trying to get together with you, if you would like to. I haven't really asked if you even want to, I have only assumed, and I shouldn't. Take care, and best wishes for a boring shift. Sav out.

===========

Sav looked at the missive, and with realizing Kachiko was also XO, and very busy herself, realized that such a spontaneous invite would not go well with her either. So, she again touched the computer desk.

***The second missive read such****

Apologies Kachiko,

As you are XO, you are probably swamped and such an out of the blue request for opening old crap from eons ago is definitely not something to be expected of you. I am putting everything away and will try to think of a date when you are not caught up in being XO or Intel to invite you over to try and recapture what I missed.....

*Am I really typing this? Why is it about me? What have I done to even deserve such treatment? It has been over six years... what are you doing? You... you... really need to get out more often, idiot.*

!MESSAGE ERASED!

Sav tried again and liked how the second one read. She sent it.

===========

Hey Commander Bayushi,

Disregard the first message. It was irresponsible of me to think you could just drop everything, being XO and Intel, just to come by at the whims of a officer wanting some nostalgia. I hope you can get some free time in to spend with Reiko, you two deserve it. If not, hope your time is uneventful for a change. I will try to schedule a meeting time when you're not on duty or booked solid with crew concerns.

Commander Tillatix out.

===========

Kachiko had already received the first message and was still on limited duty from her injuries incurred engaging Borg drones planetside. So she had gotten dressed casually & comfortably. Then she received the second message before she could depart her quarters.

===========

Sav sat at the workdesk for a moment and collected her thoughts. First she totally disparaged Stephani, now she was getting onto Cara's nerves, and she was treating Kachiko as though at her beck and call. And... she was leading Miles on as though she was a normal lady. Who the hell did she think she was?

She got up from the workdesk and moved over to where the L'Tandrey duffel bag was propped against the coffee table. She sat down on the couch, staring at it, as she tried to figure out how to not be so much of a pest to the rest of the crew. Sure, she had a rather rough time of it, others had it much rougher, and nobody deserved to be the brunt of her issues or have to even listen to anything about her life. She leaned back into the couch as thoughts of what to do with her old past flitted through her head: from open now or in the future up to and including insert into replicator and destroy them. Decisions, Decisions.

The chime sounded, outside of which the Executive Officer waited, a box of snacks she had purchased on the Starbase under one arm.

Sav was still staring at her duty bag when the chime went off. She jumped up, startled. She whispered out, "Who the heck?" Not that she wouldn't mind some company, but she truly wasn't expecting anyone. She had made friends so easily with the last crew, but this crew seemed content to not want friends, at least with her. Then again, if her past got around, who would blame them?

She went to the door and opened it, and upon seeing who it was and how she was dressed, exclaimed, "Kachiko? Lounge ware? HERE?" She shook her head to clear it and said, "My manners, uh, Please, come in." As she led the way, she said, "I... wasn't expecting anyone, duty before any relaxing, and all."

"I saw that you had invited Miss O'Reilly," Kachiko followed the Mephetian into the quarters. "Is she here yet?"

"Cara let me know she has a duty shift that begins at 1900 hours. So, it being 1730 hours, it was irresponsible of me to invite her to come over to begin with. I keep trying to make friends, but, I keep missing so far. Plans and spontaneity, nothing is working. Anyways, Hi, please, have a seat, and would you like something to drink?"

The spritely Marine shook her head, "I'm fine for now."

She set the snack tray on the table, "I brought some snack food. Since this was supposed to be a girl's night."

The small woman then turned to her host and suddenly embraced Save'ena, before stepping back and looking up, "Sorry. I just appreciate that you thought to invite me."

Sav had been sticking close to Kachiko to help in any way she could. She churred at the sight of the snack food, then was startled by the deep hug as a really loud churr rent into the air. Sav settled into it, then smiled pleasurably at Kachiko's words. She replied, "Don't be sorry, Ah enjoyed it, truly."

"I've not been the most social person over the years. Really, the only people to get me out of my lone wolf persona have been Riosa & Reiko," Kachiko sighed.

Sav stepped forward into Kachiko to take her diminutive friend onto a hug once more. She rubbed her muzzle over Kachiko's ear and temple, marking her with her musk, as she said, "You'all couldov fooled me. Ah though yah was very sociable ata academy.. ana Ah am truly glad yer here, now."

"I needed to be close to my Cadets," Kachiko shrugged, after shivering at the feel of the fur brushing over her sensitive ear. "It was expected of me. Besides, I'm fine dealing with people on the job. I have never had much of a social life, though."

Sav guided Kachiko to the couch, then gently broke the hug and guided Kachiko down onto said couch. She smiled at Kachiko, her bright eyes taking in the Marine while whiskers quivered. She now asked, "Umm, do yah know ofa someone else fer makin' it a party? If so, weun could invite them. Annnn... ummm... still wanna open mah presents, or just put ina holovid?"

"Right off, probably not. As for the presents or holovid, that's up to you, hon. It's your party, after all," Kachiko looked up from her seated position.

Sav churred gently and said, "Okay, let's watch ah holovid first, just ina case Cara gets ah break ana stops by. Ifin it ends before sheun gets here, then we can start ona presents, ayuh."

The holovid Sav chose was an old one but a good one with plenty of action called, 'Blood and Bone'. The main plot was around an ex-con who excelled at Jeet Kun Do and was paying back a promise he made to a friend in prison. However, by the end of it, there was still no Cara.

Sav sighed out and said, "Okay, No Cara, so presents next, as that is the why for the invite. Still, if Cara can get a break and stop by for a few minutes, she can join in the middle of the fun."
